Romerias de Mayo
Each year on May 3rd Holguín celebrates Romerias de Mayo with a procession from Catedral de San Isidoro up La Loma de la Cruz for a special mass. If you're here in May, it's one of the best things to do in Holguín to get a taste of the local culture.
La Loma de la Cruz
Hiking up La Loma de la Cruz is one of the most beautiful things to do in Holguín. You'll ascend 465 steps to the top of a hill with a tall cross that was raised in 1790 as an offering to end a drought. Stop in at the 24-hour bar for a cool drink and a snack to enjoy the panoramic view as you rest from the hike.
Museo de Historia Provincial
This former army barracks is now a national monument and museum that's one of the best things to do in Holguín for history buffs. Be sure to see the sword that belonged to national hero Jose Marti and the axe carved in the shape of a man.
Parque Calixto García
The statue of General Calixto García is the center of this park and a central meeting place for Holguín locals. The Centro de Arte sits on the edge of this square and houses rotating art exhibitions and Holguín's largest book collection in the Biblioteca Alex Urquiola.
Estadio General Calixto García
When in Cuba, you must see a baseball game. Head down to Estadio General Calixto Garcia to see Holguin's team the Perros (dogs) play. Even if there are no games on, the sports museum at the stadium is worth a visit.

At the top of the list of things to do in Holguín is to go listen to music with friends and a drink or two. The best place for this is Casa de la Trova, which regularly books the best acts in Cuba.
